Overseas Family School has a diverse student body with kids from 70 different countries and 14 mother-tongues. As an English medium school, OFS was searching for a way to support their subject area teachers with ESL students.
They participated in The Text Hub Pilot Program for the final 2 months of the 2022-2023 school year.
*Study group included a total of 100 middle school aged ELL (English Language Learner) students, however only students who completed 10 or more reading assessments and averaged 10 minutes per week on the platform were considered statistically relevant. The study was conducted in-class through the final 2 months of the 2023 school year.
Students at OFS who participated in the Pilot Program saw an average increase of 3.7 reading levels in the first 2 months.
With The Text Hub’s reading tools, Overseas Family School is seeing non-native English-speaking students integrate faster, with greater success across all subjects taught in English medium.
“We do have dedicated ESL teachers, but when students go off to other subject areas like science, maths, humanities…these might not be trained ESL teachers. They’ve been asking for help in the classroom. That’s why The Text Hub has been really helpful because it has become the expert in the class, that teaches the students and really supports the teachers.”
